Trust & business money

Business account, expenses and payroll

The business side of Caseo: office expenses, costs on a matter, salaries, and a business balance that accounts for all of them.

Expenses

Use New → Expense and choose the kind:

  • Firm cost: an office cost such as rent, fuel or stationery, with a category from your expense categories. The Quick fill box understands "R450 fuel today" and fills in the amount, date and description (and the category, if you already have a matching one).
  • On a matter: a cost incurred for a matter, recorded on that matter's business ledger.

Expenses appear on the Expenses tab and in the Business income and expenses report, grouped by category.

Payroll

The Payroll type lists your active members with their monthly salary. Tick who to pay and save to record their salary as paid, dated today. Each person can be paid once a month; Undo writes a reversing entry. The Transactions page shows how many of your staff have been paid this month.

Only Administrators see members' full bank account numbers; Supervisors see them masked.

Payroll in Caseo records that salaries were paid. It doesn't calculate PAYE or UIF or produce payslips; keep using your payroll provider for those.

The business balance

The Business figure is shown after expenses and salaries. If it goes below zero, Supervisors and Administrators see a note on the Dashboard and Transactions page: trust money can't be used to cover it.
